Drug users should abandon drug use or else they will be killed, President Rodrigo Duterte said.
Duterte made the speech during the Joint Meeting of the National Task Force - Regional Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict in Eastern Visayas in Tacloban City, Leyte.
“Kung ayaw mo mamatay, drop…bitawan mo ‘yang shabu. Kasi kung magkaengkwento tayo sa corner, patay ka talaga,” Duterte said.
[If you don’t want to die, stop using shabu. Because if we meet in a corner, you’ll die].
“Ganyan ako kagalit sa droga na ‘yan,” he added.
It is a threat he has made numerous times through his presidency. He then set his sights on another favorite target: human rights groups who are constantly criticizing the drug war.
“‘Yan ang hirap sa human rights. There are two sides of that coin. Bakit ito namatay? Dahil sa ginawa ito,” he said.
[That is my problem with human rights groups. There are two sides here. Why was the person killed? Because of what the person did].
“Sinong pumatay? Hindi ako ‘yan,” he added.
[Who killed the person? Not me].
The President is also unfazed by a possible trial before the International Criminal Court due to the bloody drug war which already left 7,000 people dead during police operations without facing a court trial.
“Yung International Court of Justice [sic], gusto nila ako magharap doon. Magharap ako ng korte na ang judge Pilipino. Sabi ko not in a million years,” he said.
[They want me to face the International Court. I will only face a court with a Filipino judge. Not in a million years I will do otherwise.]
